Great Book!! October 19, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As I am aspiring to become an animator for Disney in the upcoming years, I picked this book up earlyer today. I read nearly the entire thing in 2 hours. All of the imformation was worth while to me, and the content was all true. I have read MANY books on animation, including the Illusion of Life, and this book contains great info.
Too pretentious, but does introduce some interesting ideas. September 21, 1998 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The book is intended to lead one by the hand into the classic animation industry. One gets the impression that using this book (and some practice) you can become professional enough to start your own studio - it even conatains a list of items to buy for your brand new animation studio...According to my experience, you have to spend several long years in the industry as a professional animator just to become worthy of the title "animator"; let alone starting your own animation studio. However, the book does introduce some interesting ideas (although I don't agree with all of them), and I did like very much the chapters dealing with learning how to draw and how to animate. Important: the book does not teach drawing and animtion techniques! It gives an idea about what to learn (which is the most important information!) and how to learn it. All in all, certainly worh reading.
