The New Ashlee May 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this new album! I was a fan of hers since autobiography, and still am. I don't really consider her a bad singer, not the best either, she is very catchy and entertaining. The album still Charted and #4 here in the US, however only 47,000 copies were purchased in its first week, I was expecting way more than that, it was promoted enough and the single choices were trrible ( not the song themselves). If this were promoted properly and the lead single were Ragdoll or hot stuff, it wouldave showed her tru new direction, followed by her second single being murder. I feel those are the catchiest and people wouldve talked about them. Its said that Boys will be the single, given that it is summer i have a prediction itll do extremely well. The album is amazing, listen to it when you're in a good party mood, the new ashlee is here and this is only the begining!
Stand out tracks you should check out Murder, ragdoll, Hot stuff and bittersweet world.
No Talent May 11, 2008 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
One listen to this and here is the verdict: Simpson can get a nose job, re-style the hair, and wear cool clothes , but you know what? Thay can't inject talent into her. She should just go away but for some odd reason people will buy style over substance.
Doesn't quite Life Up to Ashlee's Potential May 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ashlee Simpson has been in the tabloids ever since her mess up with getting caught lip-synching on Saturday Night Live. Then there was a big deal about her nose job. What about her music? It seems people seem to focus on other issues just like with her older sister. Bittersweet World is her third studio album produced by Timbaland and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes. She also features guest stars in the indie/emo genre which you would think would make a more interesting album than her previous, but doesn't.
One thing I can say for her is at least she has a more hippy F*** you attitude than her sister giving her more street cred, but unfortunately the album is lacking something. Ashlee's vocals while never completely strong to begin with sound limited. The best song on the album is probably the single "Outta My Head (Ya Ya Ya) which has Timbaland on backing vocals. She is mostly at times more of a drama queen than a singer, which is unfortunate because she does show potential at times. It's just that she relies on her producers and other contributors to make her albums and write songs.
Firing on both octaves May 4, 2008 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Ashlee Simpson's third album is a collection of pop/dance tracks sleekly produced by the "popular guys" like Timbaland and Chad Hugo. To her credit, Simpson co-wrote all the songs on the album, and barring any lip-syncing accidents, it should do just fine.
Not the strongest of vocalists, Simpson relies on dance beats and catchy choruses, a prime example being first single "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)" which has both. A better song that's a little more Avril Lavigne pop/rock-y is the second single "Little Miss Obsessive", which is about a break-up for which reconciliation isn't quite out of the question.
"Boys" is a funny upbeat track, while "Rule Breaker" sounds like something intended for Gwen Stefani, as does "Ragdoll". "Hot Stuff" is another funny dance track, and you won't be able to resist the disco beat. "Murder" has an interesting Eastern vibe which partially makes up for lyrics. The album ends with the simple and unimpressive ballad "Never Dream Alone", but the weakest track in every way is the title track, sorry to say.
Completely and thoroughly mainstream pop, get this one just for the fun of it.
